Rev. William Franklin Monroe Baggett

(1871-1953)


William Franklin Monroe Baggett was born on September 18, 1871 in the New Ireland community of Neshoba County, Mississippi. His parents were Calvin Monroe Baggett and Winnie Francis Walters Baggett.

William first married Aquilla Ida Frances Rutledge on April 25, 1895. Ida died in 1909 (perhaps during childbirth) and William subsequently married Myrtis Huddah Carraway on February 10, 1910.

Rev. Baggett died on May 1, 1953 in Forrest County, Mississippi and is buried at Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson, Mississippi.

Rev. William Franklin Monroe Baggett and Aquilla Ida Frances Rutledge had six children:

William Calvin Baggett, Sr. (1897-1971)

Alma Verle Baggett (1899-1987)

Wilmoth Victoria (Billie) Baggett (1904-1983)

Esther Ida Baggett (1906-1977)

Infant Baggett (1909-1909)


There were four children born to Rev. Baggett and Myrtis Huddah Carraway Baggett:

William Franklin Baggett, Jr. (1914-1979)

James Thomas Baggett (1917-1979)

Myrtis (Merdie) Baggett (1922-2003)

1880 Census - Beat 2, Newton County, Mississippi

William Franklin Monroe at 8 years old. 

Note that their neighbor was recorded simply as "Indian Big John".

1900 Census - Covington County, Mississippi

William Franklin and Ida Frances with their first two children, William Calvin and Alma.

Note that they had two boarders; Edward Rutledge (related on Frances Ida's paternal side) and Abner Lambert.

1910 Census - Franklin County, Mississippi

William and Myrtis Baggett with six of William's children after the death of Aquilla Ida Frances the year prior.

1920 Census - Lawrence County, Mississippi 

William and Myrtis now with three of their own biological children. Calvin and Winne Baggett are now in their seventies and living with the family near Monticello, Mississippi.

1930 Census - Jefferson County, Mississippi

The three youngest children living at the home along with Myrtis' brother, Bryant Carraway.

1940 Census - Hinds County, Mississippi

William and Myrtis with William Jr., James, and Myrtis living at home. They also have a lodger by the name of Erenia Kenton.

According to this document, it appears that both William and Myrtis completed four years of college.
