Darling Pinkney (Darley) Blume Sr. (1772–1860)

Darling Pinkney Blume Sr. was born in 1772 in Blackville, Barnwell County, South Carolina, to John (Johan Jakob) Blume Sr. and Sarah Shipes. He was part of a large family that included siblings such as William, Sarah, and Philip Blume. Darling grew up during the early years of American independence, a time of significant transformation in the young nation.

Darling married Mary Martha Baxley in 1805, and together they raised a family that included at least 12 children, among them John B. Blume, Eli, and Nancy Blume. A farmer by trade, Darling contributed to the rural development of South Carolina, navigating the challenges of life in the antebellum South.

He lived a long life spanning nearly nine decades and witnessed monumental changes in the United States, from its founding to its expansion across the continent. Darling passed away on July 18, 1860, in Blackville, Barnwell County, South Carolina. His life is a testament to endurance and the legacy of a family that helped shape Southern history.

Pg 294 on the Estate of Darling Blume The estate of my proprietor Mr Darling Bloom being in debt to the amount of about one hundred and seventy five dollare for money received from the estate of Mr Jh Baxley in right of his son Pinckney Bloom by his first wife (formerly JAMIMA Baxley) Besides serval other small debts not exally known.
