John Henry Blume (1843–1901)
John Henry Blume was born on December 22, 1843, in Barnwell County, South Carolina, to John B. Blume and Rebecca Blume. Raised in a large family, he had many siblings, including Isadore, Ophelia, and Thurmond Blume. The Blume family relocated to Louisiana in the mid-19th century, where John would spend much of his life.
John married Appellonia “Appie” McInnis in 1876, and together they built a family in Bienville Parish, Louisiana. Their children included Ollie, Bertha, Estella, Mattie Lee, and Johnnie L. Blume, among others. John worked as a farmer, contributing to the development of the local agricultural community during the Reconstruction era and beyond.
His life reflects the challenges and transitions of the post-Civil War South. John passed away on January 24, 1901, in Castor, Bienville Parish, Louisiana, and was buried in Old Castor Cemetery. He left a legacy of perseverance and family strength that continued through his descendants.
