Born on September 23, 1720, in Wiesbaden, Hesse, Germany, David Johansen Blume’s life was marked by a journey of resilience and transatlantic legacy. The son of Johann Peter Blum and Cornelia Elisabetha Schremmer-Hoffman, David grew up amidst the cultural and historical richness of 18th-century Germany. However, the call of a new life beckoned.

In 1742, David married Kirsten Erichsdr in Sankt Hans Garnison, Odense, Denmark, a union that signified a blending of traditions. Together, they had at least one son, John (Johan Jakob) Blume Sr., born on December 26, 1742, in Bremen, Germany. The birth of John marked the continuation of the Blume lineage, which would soon embark on a transformative chapter.

The passing of David’s parents in the mid-1700s and the eventual death of his wife Kirsten in 1762 may have spurred his decision to seek opportunities beyond Europe. By the end of his life, David had made the voyage to America, settling in Barnwell, South Carolina. Here, his legacy would take root in the fertile grounds of the New World.

David passed away in Barnwell, South Carolina, leaving behind a lineage that would thrive in their adopted homeland. His son John Blume Sr. continued the family’s American story, living a long life until his death in 1816.
