John (Johan Jakob) Blume Sr. (1742–1816)

John (Johan Jakob) Blume Sr. was born on December 26, 1742, in Bremen, Stadt Bremen, Germany, to David Johansen Blume and Kirsten Erichsdr. In his early 20s, John left Europe and immigrated to Charleston, South Carolina, in 1803, seeking opportunities in the New World during a time of global migration and colonial expansion.

John married Sarah Shipes in 1769, and together they had a large family, including Darling Pinkney Blume Sr., Sarah, William, and Philip Blume. Settling in Blackville, Barnwell County, South Carolina, John established himself as a farmer and community member in the developing Southern frontier.

He lived through the American Revolution and the early years of the United States, contributing to the building of a nation. John passed away on February 16, 1816, in Blackville, Barnwell County, South Carolina, leaving behind a family whose legacy would stretch across generations in the Southern United States.
