John B. Blume was born on March 15, 1818, in Blackville, Barnwell County, South Carolina, to Darling Pinkney Blume Sr. and Mary Martha Baxley. Raised in a prominent Southern family, John grew up alongside siblings including Nancy, Christina, Eli, and Ellen Augustus Blume.
In the mid-19th century, John moved to Louisiana, where he married Rebecca Blume. Together, they raised a family of ten children, including John Henry Blume, Ophelia, and Thurmond Blume. A dedicated farmer, John contributed to the rural development of Bienville Parish during a period of westward expansion and growth in the American South.
John passed away on April 24, 1886, in Bienville Parish, Louisiana, and was buried in the Blume Cemetery near Lucky, Louisiana. His life represents the strength and resilience of a pioneering family navigating the agricultural and social changes of 19th-century America.
